Four iPadOS 27 Features Arriving at WWDC
Apple's WWDC keynote is days away. Four iPadOS 27 features have leaked: a standalone Siri app, systemwide grammar checking, natural language Shortcuts, and a Liquid Glass intensity slider.
Leaked Apple code has revealed the next iPad mini's headline upgrade: the A20 Pro chip, the same silicon that powers the current iPad Pro. Combined with a reported OLED display, landscape front camera, and improved water resistance, the iPad mini 8 is shaping up to be the most significant refresh the compact tablet has received in years.

Pro-Grade Power in the Smallest iPad
The A20 Pro would mark the first time Apple has put a Pro-tier chip inside the iPad mini. The current iPad mini (2024) runs the A17 Pro — itself a major step up from earlier generations — but the A20 Pro is built on a 2nm process and is expected to bring substantially more processing headroom. That extra power matters for Apple Intelligence features arriving in iPadOS 27, many of which require newer silicon to run on-device.
OLED, Water Resistance, and a New Camera Position
Multiple reports indicate the iPad mini 8 will transition from LCD to OLED, bringing deeper blacks, richer contrast, and thinner bezels. Whether Apple will include ProMotion with a 120Hz refresh rate remains unclear — one report suggests it could stay at 60Hz to keep costs down.
The front-facing camera is reportedly moving to a landscape orientation along the longer edge of the display. The change addresses a longstanding complaint: video calls on the current mini force users to look off-axis because the camera sits on the short side. Apple made the same switch on the standard iPad in 2022.
Water resistance is another reported addition. The current iPad mini has no official IP rating, so even a basic IP67 or IP68 certification would be new ground for the compact tablet. A redesigned speaker system is also expected.
Expected Timeline
The iPad mini 8 is expected to arrive in October, alongside Apple's broader October hardware lineup that includes the iPhone Duo, an OLED MacBook Pro, and the new Home Hub. Apple has not sent event invitations yet, but the volume of leaked code and product images suggests an announcement is imminent.
